Append to the end of document cancels print in Version 7

After reinstallation docucom does not save file if I append to the end of previous file saved before could it be Paperport 11 or my printer software of brother MFC5440cn. I am back in Windows XP after a brief experiment with Vista (the terrible) to realize that it is still not a workable option with my setup
