How Can I Make A Stamp With A Transparent Background

I'm trying to make a signature stamp that doesn't obliterate the other text on the .pdf page.  I see that the built in stamps have a transparent background but I have tried .gif, .png, .wmf, and .jpg and none of these seem to show transparently in DocuCom PDF Plus.  Any help on the matter will be appreciated.
